31.07.2007Domain name '.eu' open for
business
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP)
-- The European Union planted
its flag in cyberspace
Wednesday when the ".eu"
Internet domain name opened
for
business.
Until now, Europeans had to
choose between a national
domain such as ".fr" for
France or a global one like
".com," which is often seen
as American.
EU
Information Society
Commissioner Viviane Reding
said she expected several
hundred thousand sign-ups for
".eu" in the first few days.
National registries in some
countries -- such as Belgium,
home to the EU headquarters in
Brussels -- are offering
promotions to persuade
Internet users to stay
local.
But do
Europeans want a ".eu"
domain name? Some business
groups are uncertain how
popular it will be. Europeans
have an EU flag, an EU
passport and an EU anthem but
many have a lukewarm attitude
to European integration -- as
French and Dutch "no" votes
to a new constitution showed
this year...

04.05.2006Apple, please stop 'thinking different'
When Apple unveiled its latest Macbook and Macbook Pro the world rejoiced. Steve Jobs and his gang at Apple are excellent at product presentation and
sales. One thing that was somewhat overlooked at the launch was the inclusion on of mini-DisplayPort. It sounds great but where did Apple get this
DisplayPort mini idea from? It seems as if they came up with the idea to design, fabricate and now push the small form factor display port
themselves. It's also astonishing because mini-DisplayPort is following in the foot trails of mini-VGA and mini-DVI which all were wildly
adopted?

19.06.2007Rumor: New Mac Mini coming to Macworld 2009

famous keynotes (assuming he does indeed show up). Here's what Wired.com believes will be in the next Mac Mini, based on trends seen in
Apple's latest products: Similar to the MacBooks, the Mac Mini will sport a silver enclosure composed of a block of aluminum.

16.12.2008Via launches Nano processor for mainstream
Via Technologies is set to go mainstream. On Thursday, Via launched the low-power Nano processor line that will compete with Intel's Atom processor
and likely give the chip supplier some mainstream PC street cred.
Formerly referred to by the code name Isaiah, Nano is
based on the
x86 architecture, meaning it can run the same software as chips
from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.
With Nano, Via is angling for more mainstream notebook and mini-notebook designs such
as Hewlett-Packard's

graphics processors.

More details of next-generation Mac Mini surface
An image has appeared over on the MacRumors discussion boards of what appears to be the eagerly anticipated next generation Mac Mini. Details are
still scarce, but the source claims the new Mini will ship with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory and a SATA Super Drive. Perhaps
the biggest surprise is the apparent inclusion of a FireWire port, which Apple controversially axed from the new unibody MacBook range in October.
Apple was expected to unveil a revised Mini back at MacWorld in January, but failed to deliver leaving many consumers bitterly disappointed. The new
hardware, like the MacBook family, is expected to be powered by NVIDIA chipsets.
